Cora's last week of school

Violet got out of school a week earlier than Cora, due to kindergarten assessments. Violet and Luke had lots of together time this week. It was pretty quiet one afternoon, so I went to investigate. I was so happy to come upon this cute scene of Violet reading her favorite nursery rhyme book to Luke!
We kept busy though, Violet had a few playdates, and did wonderfully at her kindergarten assessment. So sad to say goodbye to her teachers! We took advantage of a warm afternoon and cooled off at the splash park.

I finished our summer fun list! I really like this tradition, it reminds me of things I want to do this summer, and the kids like to look at it and put stars by the activities we've done. We won't get everything done, of course, and that's just fine!
I got a great deal on strawberries and raspberries! 24 pounds of strawberries, 4.5 pounds of raspberries, to be made into lots of freezer jam, diced for smoothies and to put in oatmeal, sliced for strawberry topping, and pureed and froze into cubes for a variety of purposes.... plus a lot to be eaten fresh! It was a big day in the kitchen!
While I was doing all this berry processing, Evelyn kept busy for a while playing with water. She loved it, especially the turkey baster. She is a water baby!

We saw our first snake in our yard. I was surprised... the lots around us have been built out for a couple of years now. We saw it slip into a crack between our foundation and man door steps. Yuck!
Cora had a super fun field day on Thursday, and Friday was her last day. Her she is before school! The last day was a dress down day.

We had to try a jumping shot!
 Miss Shaw and Cora.
And here she is after school-- now a third grader!!!
The make the last day of school even more special, it was also Kevin's work Lagoon day! Kevin and I haven't been for years, and the kids have never been. I wasn't sure how it would go, with the crowds and heat and all. But we had a fantastic time and stayed much much later than I anticipated. Violet was nervous to ride the big rides, even though she was tall enough, so Cora got to ride all the big rides multiple times with Kevin and then with me.

Evelyn loved the rides! She could go on quite a few. Here's Evelyn and I on a little rollercoaster. She was a little apprehensive at first, but then insisted on riding more!
There were lots of rides for everyone. I just wish the signs made it easier to see who could go on what. For some of them adults couldn't go but Evelyn was too little to send on alone. And Luke could go on most rides, but we were never sure until we got up close to read the small print. They all had a lot of fun though, and so did I. We could have stayed even longer, and we didn't even ride all the rides!

There was no line for this little ride and Evelyn rode it at least 8 times! She was in heaven!
Luke and I waited here for Kevin, Cora, and Violet for quite a while (their ride was delayed), and Evelyn was asleep in the stroller. Luke had a blast waiting for the spider to spray and cooling off in spider mist!

Kevin stayed a little later with Cora to ride a few more rides, but these three zonked out on the way home pretty quickly. It was 10:00 after all! What a fun way to celebrate the last day of school!
