Luke at 6 months
Luke is now 6 months old! He is 14.5 pounds (5th percentile) and 25.6 inches long (21st percentile)... just a little guy. The doctor said he'd probably average out a bit now that he'll be diversifying his food. Luke has had a big month with lots of new skills and changes.
~ Luke now has two teeth! His first tooth came in during our Oregon trip,
his second tooth the week after.

And, I think he may be working on more, he's been a little grouchy the last couple of days. Or, maybe it's still from the shots.
~Luke still loves to grab. He's discovered the pleasures of pulling hair, and the girls have gotten lots of reminders of why it's not a good idea to dangle their hair in his face anymore while smooching him. Luke also loves books, paper, and crinkly stuff. I can usually finish my chapter if I give him a library receipt to play with. He thinks cards are fascinating and is tough to distract his attention away from them.
He loves his crinkly baby books. He'll also make a grab for your nose or mouth to squish it up if it's within reach.
~Luke is now a sitter! At his 6 month appointment, the doctor asked if he could sit supported, and I told her I didn't think so, but we hadn't tried lately. I was surprised she was asking about that already. I told Kevin that night that it was way too early for Luke to sit, and tried it out to prove my point, and Luke stayed up! So who knows how long he's been able to do that? He can sit for quite a while now, but still takes a topple quite often. He's so proud of himself and seems to love it!
~Luke is beginning to get around. He's experimenting with consecutive rolls, he pivots around on his tummy, and he can scootch backwards.
~We finally started experimenting with putting Luke to sleep drowsy instead of bouncing him to sleep. I was amazed that it worked--most of the time! (It didn't ever with the girls). It is a lovely thing to lay him down and leave and have him go to sleep, without days of intense crying and 'should we go get him' conversations. He has slept through the night (about 9:00-6:30) here and there, and most recently for 3 nights in a row. Lovely! (Unfortunately, he is not our only potential nighttime visitor).
~Luke had his first bites of solid food right before his six month mark. He has tried rice cereal, sweet potatoes, and pears, with varying degrees of success each time. A week later, he seems to have figured out his tongue actions to get the food down. Before it seemed like we fed him the same bite over and over. He looks with jealousy at the girls drinking out of their sippy cups, but he hasn't figured out that trick yet!
~Luke still loves sucking on his fingers, can touch his toes on demand, and discovered his tongue this month. He also enjoys blowing raspberries on occasion.

~Luke is a better shopper and hasn't fussed too much lately about being in his carseat. He loves giggling at his sisters. We discovered his most ticklish spots are on his thighs, ribs, and armpits. He is a sweetheart and so much fun for our family!

These are a bit older videos of some of his early rolling.

Oregon
We spent a week in Oregon in June visiting Kevin's family. We had a great time celebrating Father's Day, celebrating Cora's birthday, playing at parks, riding bikes, seeing extended family, eating icecream, going to the aquarium, playing with cousins, crafts, hiking, and a much anticipated beach trip. It was full and fun!
Kevin's parents had all his family in town over on Father's Day evening. I loved how Grandma had everyone there tell a memory or characteristic about their dad. Here's a picture of Luke, Kevin, Brad, and Grandpa Anderson-- 4 generations!
On the way to the beach we stopped for a 3 mile hike to a waterfall and suspension bridge. It was a little muddy, but so much fun. Cora was a trooper and didn't complain at all, just always wanted to be in front. Violet needed more motivation of goldfish and sitting on shoulders, but did alright.

We spent Monday evening, Tuesday morning, Wednesday evening, and Thursday morning playing in the water and sand. It was cool and overcast a lot of the time, but for people who only get to see the beach maybe once a year, it was a treat and oh-so-fun! This was the first time Cora and Violet have been to the beach and been old enough to appreciate it, so it was even more fun to watch them experience it. At the beach we flew kites, waded, built sandcastles, collected shells, explored tide pools, watched the waves, took walks... it was great.
Cora loved the waves from the first and didn't care how cold the water was. Several times we had to drag her kicking and screaming away from the beach. She toted sand and water for sandcastles, ran from the waves, ran into the waves, touched a sea anemone, found shells, and got buried in the sand for the first time. She was a busy girl!

Violet was terrified of the waves at first, then gradually warmed up the the game of running from the water as the waves came in, and then at the end was not satisfied by running from the waves, only running into the waves.

Luke watched from the sidelines and took an occasional nap.

We all had a great time!

The beach house was a comfy place to hang out, swim in the hot tub, and roast hot dogs. It was nice and close to the beach, and had a playground nearby as an added bonus.

We did a little birthday celebration for Cora, she was so excited! Here she is with her beloved Moo (a zhu zhu pet) from Grandma and Grandpa.

One morning we went to the Newport aquarium, which leaves our little Salt Lake City aquarium in the dust. The girls had fun seeing all the animals, the touching pool was so cool, and they also loved drawing what they saw in their notebooks they decorated the day before.

After the beach, we spent our last day and a half in Portland eating icecream,

picnicking at the park (Cora climbed up her all by herself! Violet got a helping hand),
getting a kick out of splashing in the bathtub,
playing tennis (Kevin and Dawn), picking out our birthday presents at the Columbia employee store (me--yeah!), and trying to appease a hungry Luke while we were creeping along in horrendous traffic on the way to the airport. Luckily,we left plenty early and made our flight easily, even with the delays. It was a great trip and oh-so-fun to spend time with family in a beautiful place!
